About US
Who Are We?
You might be wondering if we are legitimate or not, and we completely understand! The answer is yes, and just because we say we are obviously doesn't prove so. We are a group of students from Calvert County, Maryland, in the top school district in the state. We attend Northern High-School out of the Calvert County School District (right).
We are just starting this summer (2014), so our member count is fairly low, however we hope to see more people join as the years go on. The main founder of EAUC is Michael Metler, who has high hopes to leave some type of impact on the world (You can find more about him on the Members page). |
Why did we start EAUC?
The goals and inspiration for this club came from an article that the founder read in his sponsors reading class that outlined the current issue of under educated students. The issue is that we are in a circle of poor education and a growing gap in social class, which also results in a degrading economy. Essentially, children do not get the proper education, therefore they are unable to get jobs, therefore if they have children, those new children will follow the same path. Since the children are not generating revenue, there is no new revenue to pay for the education of more children. Since this is a circle that cannot be resolved on it's own, an outside force must be involved (why we started EAUC) According to UNICEF, 57 million children around the world are missing out on primary school educations. This conflict acts as a pivotal cause for economic issues, homeless statistics, and starving families. Though not the only cause, it proves imminent.
What are we doing?
As a school club, our options are limited to what we can physically do. Given that we are brand new and fund-less, there are no simple, direct ways to get involved other than to raise funds through UNICEF in the form of donations, or fundraisers. On the contrary, EAUC will not function only as a fund raising group, but also as a group that raises awareness of the issue at bay. We will proceed to carry out this goal by creating posters, pamphlets, flyers, etc. This website on its own is designed to raise awareness as well.
How will EAUC operate?
Virtually (on the web), the founder will almost run the entire original website. Once out of High-School, and no longer President, Permissions will be given to the sponsor to be able to edit the site for purposes such as membership, contributions, photos, etc. In the event that the founder re-creates this club at a college campus, then this site will host both Northern's club and the College club. If actions are completed in response to this particular organization, said actions will be displayed on a special page recognizing their contributions.

In school, the club will be run by four officers including a: President, Vice-President, Secretary/ Treasurer, and Event Planner. The club will be open to anyone at any time. Meetings will be held during lunch at least once a month, four times at max. Every year there will be an election for officers based on a majority vote. Each candidate will be offered the chance to give a small speech to aid their "campaign". There is always one mandatory teacher "sponsor" who oversees all club activity, as well as regulates major decisions and hosts club meetings.
